Precondition
Evidence for Precondition
1. The Sanger Unified School District’s New Teacher Induction Program is designed to provide a two-year, individualized, job-embedded system of mentoring, support and professional learning that begins in the teacher’s first year of teaching.
- Program length
- Job embedded
- Focused on mentoring and support
- Begins the first year of teaching
2. SUSD’s Induction Program identifies and assigns a mentor to each candidate within the first 30 days of the candidate’s enrollment in the program, matching the mentor and candidate according to credentials held, grade level and/or subject area, as appropriate to the participant’s employment.
- Program Handbook with policy statement about mentor matches
- Spreadsheet showing matches
3. SUSD’s New Teacher Induction Program assures that each candidate receives an average of no less than one hour per week of individualized support/mentoring coordinated and/or provided by the mentor.
Induction Handbook with policy statement stating participating teacher receives a minimum of 1 hour per week from support provider.
- Monthly log
- Description of tracking process of support: Mentor/candidate meeting hours are recorded utilizing a monthly log that is submitted each month and is checked by the program coordinator. Weekly dates and hours met are reported. In addition, topics covered and CSTPs discussed are also noted.
4. Goals for each candidate must be developed within the context of the Individual Learning Plan (ILP) within the first 60 days of the teacher’s enrollment in the program.
- Induction handbook stating that the participating teacher’s ILP is developed within the first 60 days of program enrollment.
- Description of ILP Process: The candidate, with the guidance of the support provider and input from the site administrator develops the focus of the ILP within the first 60 days program enrollment. A due date is set for submission of focus of ILP that is well within the 60 days. The ILP is submitted to Canvas where the Induction Coordinator or Director gives feedback/input concerning the ILP focus. Candidates (along with their mentors and administrators) that have not submitted are sent email reminders about upcoming submission due date and help is offered to make sure it get done.
5. The ILP must be designed and implemented solely for the professional growth and development of the candidate and not for evaluation from employment purposes.
Statement by Superintendent, Dennis Wiechman, stating that the Induction ILP will be used solely for the professional growth and development of the teacher and not for evaluation for employment purposes.
6. An Induction Program sponsor must make available and must advise candidates of an Early Completion Option for “experienced and exceptional” candidates who meet the program’s established criteria.
